True Tales From Our Not Too Distant Analog Past: Jason Holley

Last week we attended ICON6 in Pasadena, where Jason Holley presented a series of hilarious animations and they were a huge hit.  Fortunately for the rest of you, he’s posted one of them online. Fabulous!

MacPaint Enters the Museum

Drawing by Susan Kare. Image by Apple
As a 10-year old MacPaint was my absolute favorite program. I would create birthday cards and signs. Although I didn't realize it at the time, it probably started my career as a graphic designer.
Now Apple has donated the original source code of MacPaint and QuickDraw to the Computer History Museum, which is even available for download. For those of us who are less interested in code, the Museum tells the history of these revolutionary programs.

Grain & Gram: Printmaker, Nick Sambrato

Interesting article on printer Nick Sambrato from Grain & Gram: The New Gentleman’s Journal. Sambrato is the owner of Mama's Sauce   Press and he talks about buying and running a printshop.

World Cup T-Shirts

None of us here at CQ are soccer fans, however even we've noticed the excitement mounting for the World Cup. And there's a ton of Fifa-related design products being produced. In particular, I like the t-shirts supporting the Dutch team designed by Bas van de Poel and Daan van Dam.

Initially it looks very simple and minimal. But when your favorite player scores a goal...

...you can celebrate as if you were him.

Tobias Wong

We're saddened to hear of the passing of extremely talented designer Tobias Wong. His work was conceptually driven and usually had a pointed message.

License to Design

Ken Carbone writing for Fast Company has designers take a look at some state license plates. License plates are a huge revenue stream for state governments, sadly they are also often poorly designed. Above, design by Ken Carbone

ICON6 in LA

A great opportunity for illustrators and illustration-lovers (I'm talking to you, designers!). The Illustration Conference (ICON) is heading to Los Angeles this year. And you can still join for the Early Bird Special. Purchase before May 31st and save! And, to boot, the attendance is already larger than the last 3 conferences—so there's sure to be plenty of old friends and new faces.
Creative Quarterly will attending and we hope to see you there!
