Once again a select panel of judges will select the top 100 entries from the year’s entries in fine art, graphic design, illustration and photography.
Judges were selected from those we profiled during 2014, this year’s judges include Vanessa Eckstein, Blok Design, Toronto; Yann Legendre, illustrator, Paris; Bruce Peterson, photographer, Boston and we hope to have Natan Pernick judge our fine art category.
Judging will be complete in early December, winners will be announced at that time and production will begin on the 2014 100 Best Annual, available in print and digital formats.

Workshop: Art and Science of Label Typography
TypeEd, the Los Angeles-based program of typography and typesetting courses for the creative community, is equipping designers with the skills to create effective visual communications. In an upcoming workshop called “Whisky Type,” students will learn informative and eye-catching label design using typographic hierarchy and effective use of negative space. The eight-hour intensive will take place on August 16 at the Chapman University in Orange, California.
Instructor Michael Stinson will discuss the basic elements and construction of a whisky label, review existing label examples, how to organize information, and approach a label design in both traditional and contemporary styles.
“Typography is a skill of reasoning, knowledge, patience and experience, and one that produces work expressing ideas with more clarity than any other design discipline,” stated Stinson. “This workshop will provide practical skills to help designers learn how to create effective hierarchy and how to think in systems that speak to target audiences from the shelf.”
